CEO Letter
Electricity remains a good value

G. Thomas Upshaw | President & CEO
At Palmetto Electric Cooperative, we recognize that rising energy costs are affecting our members.
After all, we are co-op members, too, and pay the same rates as you. We work hard to keep
rates as low as possible while maintaining reliable service.
Other cooperatives and power companies across the nation face the same challenge. However, most consumers
do not realize that the national cost of electricity today, when adjusted for inflation, is less than
what it was in 1980.
Few commodities have remained such a good value. Compared to other consumer products and
services, electricity is a bargain.
Palmetto Electric Cooperative focuses on innovation and new technologies to improve service and
reliability. And, through Living in South Carolina Magazine and other member communications,
we promote energy efficiency and encourage conservation.
As the demand for energy continues to rise and the costs of fuels increase, your electric cooperative
is committed to providing safe and affordable electricity at the lowest possible cost: a value
we can all fit into our budgets.
