Co-ops’ numbers impressive
But they don’t tell the whole story

G. Thomas Upshaw | President & CEO

When you establish service with Palmetto Electric Cooperative, you are assigned an account number. Doing so helps us serve you more efficiently but, make no mistake about it, we don’t view you as “just a number.”

To us, you are a member — not just a customer. The personal touch is something we still value, even though we use the latest, proven technologies to better serve you.

By being part of the Cooperative, you help us tap the strength in numbers. You are one of 49,000 members representing approximately 63,000 accounts at Palmetto Electric Cooperative.

A cooperative business is greater than the sum of its parts. Cooperation yields exponential benefits: By supporting their Co-op, members not only provide themselves with reliable, affordable electric service but also help improve quality of life in their communities. Members can participate in the annual meeting, where they elect their peers to lead the Co-ops, or in cooperative-sponsored community outreach efforts and programs. On behalf of its members, the Cooperative strives to promote economic development. We do it to attract and retain good jobs for our communities. Large power users help hold down the cost of service for all members.

Like the Co-op’s membership, Palmetto Electric gains strength in numbers with fellow co-ops. We are one of 20 independent, consumer-owned electric distribution co-ops across South Carolina. Co-ops here — indeed, all across America — work together in mutually beneficial ways. There are more than 900 electric cooperatives across America, serving more than 37 million people in 47 states. We share know-how and, when necessary, manpower.

As much as we value and admire our sister Co-ops, the local focus is still the key for us. Our focus is on you, the individual member.

When you call the Co-op and our service representative asks for your name and account number, the number is just to help us serve you. The actual number is a little misleading. In fact, while we’re serving you, you are Number One with us.
