In South Carolina, you don’t often hear people speak ill of air
conditioning. But maybe there’s one thing that has suffered since the
advent of the AC: Along with indoor temperatures, perhaps our
sense of community has cooled a little.
As an old friend once pointed out, in summertime people used to
spend more time socializing with neighbors, either on their
porches, in their yards, or out at the fence. Now, thanks to air
conditioning, at day’s end we often head straight from the
cool interior of our car to the cool interior of our home.
Mind you, at Palmetto Electric, we don’t really feel bad about
making it possible for people to have air conditioning and other
modern conveniences. But, if modern life has you feeling a little
“disconnected” from your community, we have a solution: Attend your co-op’s
annual meeting on Saturday, May 5, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Ridgeland.
We have some business to take care of — including electing some
of your peers to represent you on the co-op’s Board of Trustees —
but the co-op meeting is also a time to visit with one another and have a
little fun. We’ll have a gift for every member who registers and prize
drawings for those who stick around for the business session.
The mild weather of spring is a great time to connect with your
neighbors and your community. An electric cooperative is a
community in itself, after all. We trust you’ll leave the
meeting feeling proud to be a part of it.
Please come to see us on Saturday, May 5, at Palmetto
Electric’s headquarters in Ridgeland!
