Energy Star Transformers

Each year, more than 61 billion kilowatt hours of electricity - roughly 2 percent of U.S. electricity production - are wasted through inefficient transformers. To replace these energy losses, electric generating plants need to operate for roughly nine days. To combat this problem, Palmetto Electric is using high-efficiency distribution transformers within its system through the Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Transformer Program. This program will help the co-op reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase its efficiency.
