Through our Bright Ideas program, teachers in grades
K-12 in southern Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties can apply for grants up to
$1,000 to fund innovative classroom projects.
Each year, three local high school juniors are chosen by Palmetto Electric to represent
their co-op as delegates to the Washington Youth Tour, an all-expenses-paid week in our
nation's capital. They are also eligible to compete for a $2,500 scholarship awarded by the
Electric Cooperatives of South Carolina, Inc.
Furthermore, Palmetto Electric visits classrooms from preschool to high school, to present
safety programs and talk to kids about the history of cooperatives. Palmetto Electric also
partnered with the Discovery Channel School to help Middle School Students "Get Charged!"
about Electricity.
Programs like these are prime examples of a Touchstone Energy Cooperative's commitment to
education and the community.
