Washington Youth Tour Scholarship
Each year, three local high school juniors are chosen to represent Palmetto Electric Cooperative in
the Rural Electric Youth Tour, a weeklong educational trip to Washington, D.C.
The Youth Tour gives students a chance to see government in action, visit historical
sites and learn all about electric cooperatives. Last year’s winners were Dominic DeSantis,
Angelique Mole and Sarah Wade.
This year’s trip is scheduled for June 14–19 and is sponsored by Palmetto Electric and the National
Rural Electric Cooperative Association. In addition, The Electric Cooperatives of
South Carolina, Inc., will award a $2,500 scholarship to one of the South Carolina
Youth Tour participants.The recipient will be judged on an essay, an interview, and
participation during the tour. SAT scores, class standing or grade point average will
not be considered.
Applicants must meet the following qualifications and entry requirements.
- Applicant must be a high school junior.
- Applicant must complete an application form and submit three letters of reference.
- If selected as a finalist, applicant must participate in a personal interview.
- Applicant’s primary residence must be served by Palmetto Electric Cooperative.
- Finalists must meet additional requirements in order to compete for the $2,500 scholarship.
